🔒 Your files never leave your device - 100% private & secure
VidShift uses WebAssembly and WebCodecs to convert video and audio files entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server - your files stay private and the conversion runs locally using your computer's processing power.
Video formats: MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV, M4V, MPEG-TS, and OGV. Audio formats: MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, and OGG. Supported codecs include H.264, VP9, Theora, Opus, Vorbis, and AC-3 (Dolby Digital) decoding.
Yes. Choose an audio output format such as MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, or OGG and VidShift will extract the audio track from your video. This is useful for saving music, dialogue, or podcasts from video recordings.
VidShift is completely free with no limits, no subscriptions, and no hidden fees. Because all processing happens on your device, there are no server costs - so the tool stays free for everyone.
No. Your files never leave your device. VidShift has no backend servers that receive or store your media. All conversion runs locally in your browser, ensuring complete privacy.
Yes. After loading VidShift once, a service worker caches the application so you can convert files without an internet connection. Ideal for working on the go or in low-connectivity environments.
Speed depends on your device and file size. Short clips convert in seconds. Longer or high-resolution videos may take a few minutes. A progress bar and time estimate are shown during conversion.
The limit depends on your device's available RAM. Most modern computers handle files up to several gigabytes. For very large files, try the medium or low quality setting to reduce memory usage.
VidShift works in Chrome 90+, Edge 90+, Firefox 88+, and Safari 15+. For the best experience and widest codec support, we recommend Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
VidShift analyses your source file and sets quality relative to it. Original keeps the same bitrate as your input. High uses about 70%, Medium about 40%, and Low about 20%. The exact values in kbps (kilobits per second) are shown on each button so you always know how the output will compare. Quality is never set higher than the source, so you won't accidentally inflate the file size.
Bitrate measures how much data is used per second of video or audio. It is shown in kbps (kilobits per second) or Mbps (megabits per second). A higher bitrate means more detail and a larger file. A lower bitrate produces a smaller file but may reduce clarity. VidShift displays the bitrate for each quality tier so you can balance file size and visual quality before converting.
Yes. After loading a video, VidShift shows resolution options based on your source file. You can keep the original resolution or scale down to a standard preset such as 1080p, 720p, 480p, or 360p. Only resolutions equal to or smaller than the source are offered - VidShift never upscales, which would waste space without improving quality. The pixel dimensions for each option are displayed so you can see exactly what you will get.
Most online converters upload your files to a remote server, which is slow and raises privacy concerns. VidShift converts locally - nothing leaves your device. There is no signup, no watermarks, no file size limits, and it works offline.
VidShift is powered by Mediabunny, which uses WebAssembly and WebCodecs to perform media conversion directly in the browser. This means no server-side processing is needed - everything runs on your device.
